Replacing Deck Spindle assembly on Husqvarna Riding Mower

This is how you change a broken Spindle on a Riding Lawn Mower. .

The pictures and Video show how to remove from a Husqvarna YTH 24K48 model.

This particular model is a Husqvarna, but this is the same on several different models including Craftsman

Step 1

Remove Deck from Riding Lawn Mower, this is different on all lawn mowers.

This is on a Husqvarna model YTH 24K48. .

Tools needed:

Pliers

Flat Screw Driver

Impact wrench

Socket Wrench and sockets

Short piece of wood

Grease gun and grease

Step 2

Turn deck over and remove blade, using a impact wrench helps, but it can be loosen with wrenches. Take bolt loose from top pulley and remove the 4 bolts holding the Spindle with a socket. Screw the big nut back on the pulley, until nut is flush to the top ( if t doesn't come off easy). Take a Rubber mallet and gently tap the top until it loosens the pulley.

PS you might want to put a board between the pulley and deck, because you can hit your hand. I forgot this step, OUCH!!!

Step 3

Now place the new Spindle from the bottom of the deck, aligning the spacer plate with the bolt holes.

Start the bolts and tighten with a Socket wrench.

Do not use the impact wrench on these, use a socket wrench

Step 4

Reinstall the Pulley, if your model had a spacer washer, be sure to put it back on. Install the big nut and tighten with a impact wrench.

If you don't have a impact wrench, use a Socket wrench.

Step 4

Add Grease to the new Spindle, pump until it comes out the top or bottom.

Step 6

Sharpen the blades before you reinstall them. I used my impact wrench again, to tighten the bolts, it's handy, but you can use wrenches. Just hold the blade with gloves or wedge a board between the blade and deck.

PS, be sure and put the blades back on the way you took them off.

Finish

Reinstall the Deck and Belt, now you are ready to mow again.
