Repair of Dewalt DCD780 Drill

This Dewalt DCD790 keeps losing power and hesitates when the switch is pressed.

The drill will work when partially pressed in. But stops and/or hesitates when fully pressed.

Remove 10 screws. I used the flathead screwdriver to remove the one at the lower front of the drill.

๐Ÿค”Oh yeah. Please remove the battery first.๐Ÿ™„

Positioned the drill on its side and gently pry it open.

I decided to just clean up the drill since I had it open. However, you don't have to remove the chuck assembly to fix this problem.๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿฉบ

Lift the switch assembly from the casing so that you can have access to the switch housing. You don't have to remove the assembly from the casing.

The switch housing has three tabs. 2 on one side and 1 on the other. Using the flathead screwdriver, gently pry the tabs open. Emphasis on gently.!!!๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ If damaged, it will make it difficult to snap it back shut.

You don't need to remove the tab on top as seen in the picture

Please be careful๐Ÿ˜ข

I don't know the name of this component. I just know that it needs to stay in contact with the circuit on the other side.

I took it out and bent the ends a little closer together (Not too much) and I cleaned the circuit with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Keynote.๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ When the switch is pressed, that metal component slides over the circuit board allowing the current to pass through to the motor assembly, which drives the chuck assembly. ๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ’คWhich blah! blah! blah!๐Ÿ˜’

Snap back together when done

You can test the drill before putting it back together..๐Ÿ˜

Sorry, no pictures for this step

Although I did buy a newer drill. I just did not want to throw this one out without attempting to fix it. After all, you can never have too many Dewalt drills.

Click on the videos to see the test I did as soon as I reassembled it.
