Removing Stains With Natural and Unnatural Products
Hello everyone, I did an experiment where I brought 2 normal cleaning supplies which are Persil water detergent and vinegar to see which product can remove stains the best and can vinegar be called a cleaning product.
Question
What is the best cleaning material to remove stains?
Hypothesis
If we use vinegar, hair spray, and Persil water detergent to remove the stains then vinegar will remove the stains because it is the strongest product out of the three
Variables
Dependent: The percentage of the removal of the stains
Independent: The cleaning products
Controlled: The cloth, the placement of the cloths, the temperature, the amount of cleaning products
Background Research
I found out that vinegar is a very strong product and can be used in many things like planting and cooking. I also found out that Hair spray is sometimes used for cleaning stains quickly and efficiently.
My source:
pH of Vinegar: Acidity and Strength (healthline.com)
Materials
1-cloths
2-Ketchup
3-Persil water detergent
4- Hair spray
5- Vinegar
6- Notepad
7- Camera
Procedure
1-Get 3 cloths and add ketchup on each one
2-Choose 3 cleaning products (in my case: vinegar, hair spray and Persil water detergent)
3-Place each cleaning product on a separate cloth on the stain
4- Leave them in a safe place and wait 24hours
5- After the 24hours, go to the cloths and see which cleaning product removed the stains the most
6- Take pictures of the experiment
7- Write what you saw
8- Share your findings
Data
Please ignore the 120%, the maximum is 100%
Data Analysis
In found out that Persil Water detergent was the best option but the vinegar was a very close second and hair spray was 3rd and last. I think an error would be not counting the exact amount of the cleaning supplies. For example, I may have added more vinegar but less Persil detergent. I saw a trend in data where in the last 12 hours, the cleaning products removed the stains better and faster.
Results
After the 24 hours, It turns out that the Persil water detergent removed more of the stains than the other 2 products. The Persil water detergent removed the stains by 99% while the vinegar removed the stains by 96% while the hair sprat removed the stains by 56%.
Conclusion
After the experiment, I saw that the Persil water detergent was the best way of removing the stain as it removed the stain by almost 99% while the vinegar was a very close second as it removed the stains by around 96%. While the Hair spray was last as it removed the stains by only 56%. So it shows that using Persil water detergent Is the best option but vinegar is a good option.
Application
This is very important research since this shows that we can change from unnatural products that affect the environment to natural products that help the environment. I learned from this reserch that anything that is around us can be used for more needs than it is made to. For example, vinieger is used for cooking but we found another need and use for it which is cleaning.
Evaluation
In my opinion, I think I used the thinking skill the most this experiment. Reasons for that is because I had to research on the products that I was using and I also had to research about how people have done the experiment. And because the background research is one of the main parts of the science fair, it is obvious that researching was the most used skill.
