For this project, I found an old fishing cart that I wanted to make into a nice piece of furniture. It was a fun easy project and didn't take that too long. I thought that doing a burned look on it would be cool and it came out great. It was also a cheap project the only money I spent on it was on a can of clear polyurethane.

Supplies

The supplies you will need are.

  • an old piece of furniture
  • sander or sandpaper
  • a blow torch
  • can of polyurethane

In my case, I had to remove all the rod holders on the sides. Also, remove the drawers and knobs. Then using a sander or sandpaper you need to sand all the surfaces until all the markings and old sealer is off.

Burning the Wood

Be super safe when you are using the blow torch. Lightly burn the wood your only making the wood grain pop. When going back and forth lift the torch up so as not to make darker spots. Do nice even passes and try to keep the same darkness all around.

Sealing the Wood

I used a can of spray polyurethane and did multiple cotes as the cans directions stated. The spray can is not the best but it will work for me. Next time I would use a paint-on sealer. Now you are finished.
