Reflective Steps!
Our dog Ebony who is now 15 and a half is having a few sight issues. She no longer has very good vision at dusk. She has been very nervous about going up and down the steps to her dog run, so I set out to solve the problem. I came to the conclusion that she was nervous on the steps because she couldn't see, so I needed a way to light them. At first I thought about having LEDs light her path, but couldn't find a way to power the lights since we have no plugs anywhere around the side yard. I finally settled on a plan of using some sort of a reflective ribbon to reflect the outside light that we have above the steps to help her see the steps even better, and now 5 months later, I finally did it!
Gather Supplies
To light the path for Ebony I used 4 of those slap-on reflective bracelets. I got them at the dollar store for less than $3. I also used a hammer and nail to install them, I started off with a staple gun but found that the staples couldn't make it through the metal band inside of the bracelet, so I used a hammer and nail instead.
Attach the Bands!
It is as simple as that, just nail the bracelets to your steps. The hardest part was definitely getting the nails through the metal band, but after the first few I got the hang of it!
All Done!
Now the reflective steps are all done! Ebony can now race up and down her steps and she can see them perfectly! This was a simple project that only took about half an hour, and it makes such a difference to our pets, and even people who have trouble seeing steps, definitely give it a go!
