Turn a boring too small t-shirt into a nicely fitting and much more interesting top!

Gather Your Supplies

You will need:

  • a t-shirt that is too small
  • knit fabric or fabric from another t-shirt
  • lace ( enough to fit around the original t shirt with several inches to spare)
  • a sewing machine and basic sewing notions
  • scissors

Cut

Cut the t-shirt up both sides, from the bottom hem all the way up to the hem of the sleeve.

Cut and Pin

Cut two strips of knit fabric that are the length of the bottom hem to the hem of the sleeve of the t-shirt. Pin the two strips to the t-shirt, one on each side (right sides together).

Sew

Sew the strips to the t-shirt with your sewing machine where you have pinned. Line up the edge your presser foot with the edge of you fabric when you sew. Make sure you are only sewing two layers of fabric together and not accidentally catching other parts of the t-shirt. When you have sewn all the seams, turn you t-shirt right side out. It should still look like a t-shirt, only bigger.

Sew on the Lace

Cut your lace to be about half an inch bigger than the hem of your t-shirt, then sew the ends of the lace together. Pin the lace to the hem of you t-shirt, right sides together. Sew where you have pinned, following the edge of the lace with your presser foot. Take care to sew a straight line since it will show on the outside of the t-shirt.

Wear It!
