Red Radish Cake
Red radish cake with the goodness of radish and carrot is a steamed, fried, savory, and delicious dish served with browned garlic, sesame seeds, and chilies.
This special and traditional Chinese cuisine is usually cooked on new year's eve as a sign of 'Good Luck'. People who don't like eating carrots or radish should try this appetizer, as it will change their view and hatred towards vegies.

Supplies
Ingredients
⨘ Radish 400 grams
⨘ Carrot 300 grams
⨘ Rice flour 1 cup
⨘ Corn flour 1/2 cup
⨘ Sugar 2 tablespoon
⨘ Salt 1 teaspoon
⨘ Black Pepper powder 2 teaspoon
⨘ Oil 2 tablespoon
⨘ Water 1½ glass(250 ml)
For Dip
⨕ Shallots 5 (50 grams)
⨕ Garlic 5 cloves
⨕ Red chilly 1
⨕ Sesame seeds 1teaspoon
⨕ Oil 2 tablespoon
Utensils
⨁ A cauldron(Kadhai)
⨁ Spatula
⨁ Mixing bowl
⨁ Baking pan
⨁ Knife
⨁ Peeler
⨁ Grater
Grating
- Wash the radish and carrots in clean water.
- Peel the outer peels of both the carrot and radish using a peeler.
- Grate the radish and carrot and transfer them to a plate.
Preparing Batter
- Add 1 cup rice flour, 1/2 cup corn flour, 2 tbsp, sugar 1 tsp, and 2 tsp black pepper to a mixing bowl.
- Stir it well till it is completely mixed.
- Add 1 glass of water(250 ml) to it, and mix it until you find no lumps.
Cooking Vegetables
- Add the grated radish and carrot to a cauldron(Kadhai) Θ 🔥Flame should be high.
- Stir it well using a spatula for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add 1/2 glass of water to it and cook it on a high flame🔥
- After 5 minutes switch the flame 🔥 to medium and add the flour batter to it.
- ⚠️ The batter begins to thick, so stir it continuously for 3 minutes.
Steaming
- Grease the baking pan with oil/ butter.
- Transfer the cooked radish and carrot batter from the cauldron(Kadhai) to the baking pan.
- Steam the radish and carrot batter for 30 minutes.
- If you are using a cauldron(Kadhai) to stream it, then add a sufficient amount of water to the cauldron and place the baking pan on top with a stand. 🔥 Flame should be high.
- Close the cauldron with a lid and steam it for 30 minutes.
Freezing
- After steaming, carefully remove the baking pan from the steamer and leave it to settle down at room temperature for 45 minutes.
- Now keep the baking pan in the freezer to let the cake set.
- Remove the Pan from the freezer after 2 hours.
- Cut the cake into regular pieces.
Frying
- In a frying pan add 2 tablespoons of oil.
- Fry the cake pieces till they turn golden brown and have a crispy texture. 🔥 Flame should be medium.
- Transfer the fried cake to a plate.
Dip
- Cut the shallots, red chilly, and garlic into small pieces.
- Add 2 tablespoons of oil to the cauldron or wok. 🔥 Flame should be medium
- Add the red chilly and saute it for a minute on medium flame 🔥 .
- Add the garlic and shallots to it and saute it for 2 minutes on medium flame 🔥 .
- Add the black sesame seeds and saute it for a minute on medium flame 🔥
- Transfer the dip to a dipping bowl.
Presentation
Plate the red radish cake with a few drizzles of dip on top of it. Now you can taste the delicious red radish cake with a hint of chilly garlic dip.
