Are you looking for a new inventive way of adding sparks to your cake? Or in general your food? Look no further!

This recipe, with only 3 ingredients will give you the opportunity to create edible glitter at home. It`s easy and you can make it in as many colours as you like.

Supplies

  • 230mL of Water
  • 1 Tsp of Cornflour
  • An edible food colouring of your choice

Other things:

  • Acetate sheet
  • a brush
  • a pan
  • A blender

Prepare the Mixture

At medium/low heat pour the water in a pot and add the corn flour. Continuously mix it, until the cornflour is completely dissolved.

It will take around 10 to 15 min, the important thing is... mix, mix and mix! You will see that the water starts to thicken, when it has the same consistency as honey, it`s ready.

Let`s Colour

Now it`s time to add the colour of your choice.

I choose red. You can also use 1 tsp of coloured powder, you don`t have to use the liquid. Add as much as you need, that will depend from how bright you`d like to have your glitter.

Little note: to make it more glittery, you can add a metallic colour, as the pigments in it will make it even more sparkly!

Time to Paint

This is the fan part.

Take your acetate sheet and start pouring your coloured mixture on top. Now paint. make sure that the mixture is spread evenly on the acetate.

Little note: if you don`t have acetate paper you can use cling film. Just make sure that the cling film is attached on something so it doesn`t wrinkle.

Let It Dry

This can take time, but it will depend from the ambient temperature of your house. It can go from 4 hrs to 24 hrs, but do not worry as the magic will happen.

Place the sheets now full of your mixture in a dry place, away from heat sources, and... wait

The mixture will start to dry, as when it`s fully dry you will notice that the mixture is completely detached from your acetate paper.

Create the Glitters

Take the new sheets and break them into pieces in a blender. It will be ready when you have a fine powder to work with.

Take the powder and sieve it. And voila`! Your glitter are ready.
