Recycled Trumpet Valve Guard

Essentially, a trumpet valve guard GUARDS the valves of a trumpet from hand oils, sweat, etc. My trumpet has one of these. However, it has been worn out. So, I used an old marching band bag to create one of these guards. Prior to making this guard, I made my design to visualize what my guard would look like.

Supplies

For my supplies, I used:

  • An old bag
  • Velcro
  • Scissors
  • A ruler
  • A writing utensil

CUT!!!

Cut the bag with scissors and also cut the unnecessary parts of the bag off.

MEASURE

This part is crucial! By that, I mean you have to be precise enough for the guard to cover most if not all the valves..

CUT MORE!!!

Unlike the other cutting step, here we are going to cut more precisely to get the guard into the shape we want it.

Apply Velcro

Similar to the last two steps, precision is key when applying the velcro to the fabric. If you are not careful, the velcro will become displaced and it will not hold the guard in place.

Apply!

With enough precision, the valve guard fit nicely!
