Handmade Jute craft DIY Gift item Idea/DIY pen Stand using waste material

While technology is constantly giving us new ways of doing things, there are some things that stubbornly stay the same. Take the cardboard boxes, for example, most of the products shipped in the world are still sent using some type of cardboard packaging. So what do we do with all of it?

Unfortunately, we usually break down the boxes and toss them in recycling—but if we would just give it a little thought, the possibilities are almost endless. Cardboard can be bent, cut, painted, wrapped, and configured in almost any way you can imagine. Here I will show you a creative idea for turning excess cardboard into functional household items as well as a room decor item too and you can also gift it to your friends and family...

Making this pen stand is simpler than you might think.

So let's create this beautiful pen stand, out of an old box.

Supplies

  • Old box (you can change it as per your requirement)

  • Jute Rope

  • Quilling Strips (3mm,5mm)

  • Quilling Tools

  • White Glue

  • Paper Cutter

  • Scissor

Preparing the Box

This project is so easy you could adapt it to any size box you already have, but I decided to use 17cm x 19cm sizes I think that would be a good storage for your pens. To start out,I am going to use a ruler and cut it with my paper-knife.

Wrapping the Box With Jute Thread

Now take a jute thread and wrapped the whole box with it, as it's shown in the pictures. Here I have used withe glue. I better suggest you must used white glue too because the first time it looks a little bit messy but you don't need to worried about it after the glue is completely dry it will dissarpare.

Making the Qulling Flower

Here I have shone how to create quilling flowers

Let’s start by making a coil. First, take a strip of quilling paper and the quilling needle tool. Put the paper into the needle as shown in the picture then start rolling. Then make a tight coil and put it on the circular ruler to uncoil for some time. After that, you have a loose coil. Paste the end with some glue and create a teardrop shape (as it is shown in the picture) now create more flower petals like this.

Glue the petals together. For the center make a tight roll out of red quilling paper.

Making the a Leaf

For the leaves, I have used a green quilling strip. Turn the quilling strip over don't forget to live some space as it is shown in the pictures. Scrape from the end of the curve. Trim off the excess paper and glue the ends. Repeat these steps to make the leaves.

For this pen stand, I have used 4-6 leaves of slightly varying sizes and shades of green.

Making the Quilled Fringed Flowers

Join the two different color striped and and cut the top part of those strips as it's shown in the pictures and make a tight coil with it.

Using a Lace

Now here, I have used an old dress lace to decor my pen stand this is totally optional. I have used white glue to stick the lace with my pen stand. and I think it will give it an elegant look to my pen stand. If you don't have any lace then you may use other things like ribbon, yarn, bids, paper cutout, and many more.

Assembling

Now assemble all the quilling flowers and leaves with white glue. Please use white glue, even if looks a little bit messy the first time but you don't need to worried about i,t after the glue is completely dry excess glue will automatically disappear.
