Recycled Minecraft Ore Lamp!

This is a tutorial for making a Mincraft-themed Ore Lamp. Made from recycled materials as well! Hope you all get some form of inspiration from this build of mine!

For this project, you will need:

Materials-

>Cardboard (I had found some precut squares from a box, which were roughly 10x10cms)

>Rough sheet of paper for the template

>Wires

>LED/ any light emitting device

>Aluminum foil (optional)

>Clay (optional)

Tools-

>Hot glue gun

>Ruler and pencil/pen

>Hobby knife

We will start by getting our cardboard cut into 6 pieces, all of the same size. After that, we will make the template for how the side of our ore lamp will look like.

Trace out one of the sides on a piece of paper, and we can then start by making the design.

As my cardboard piece was 10x10cms, i made a grid with 10 squares,each square measuring 1cm. You can always change this according to what size cardboard you are using.

Next, we can take this grid that we made, and cut out squares. I took some inspiration from an actual minecraft ore, and used some of my imagination to make a random pattern on the template. After I was satisfied with what I had, I cut out the squares I marked, to get the final template.

Ive attached the picture i used for reference, maybe you all can get some inspiration from there as well!

Remember, you can always make anything, there is no limit here!

We will be using our template to copy the design onto 4 of the cardboard squares we have.

Lay the template right above the cardboard, and copy the design onto it. I used a sketch-pen for this, as it was a lot easier than a pencil, but feel free to use whatever you are comfortable with.

Once you are done copying the design onto every side, we can start cutting it!

Please be careful when using a sharp object, accidents can occur at any time if not mindful.

Do take this step slowly, as it requires some patience and precision. Once all the pieces are cut, we can move to the next step!

This step is completely optional

I decided to add some foil on the top and bottom of the lamp, to reflect some of the light from the LED.

Place the square above the foul, and carefully cut around it. Once done, you can stick it onto one side, and trim off the excess.

I used this Rainbow LED for this project, as I had one lying around. I straightened the pins, and attached a wire to it.

You can use any sort of wire, I just happened to have some jumper cables handy.

Just to be sure, I connected the LED to the battery to make sure it was still working, and that the connection was secure.

I used some clay to hild the LED In place, though hot glue will work just fine.

We are just a step away from completing this project!

All that remains, is to glue the side panels to the lamp.

For the wire coming from the LED, I made a small cut in one of the panels, and stuck the wire through the hole.

With all 4 sides glued into place, all that remains is the top!

(If you are making a larger lamp, be sure to use more LEDs, and make sure the wiring is all set before closing the lamp off!)
