Recycled Cardboard Tube Flower

IMG_7019.JPG

This flower is a really entertaining to make. It doesn't require a lot of skill but this is a fun project to make. I highly encourage you to try this out for yourselves when you just have an hour or two on your hands and you don't know what to do. This entire project used only one paper towel roll! For the stem I hot glued a stick to the bottom of the petals. Make sure that you choose a sturdy stick for the stem.

Supplies

  • One cardboard tube roll
  • Hot Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Paint
  • Paint brush

Cut the Cardboard

First I took my cardboard roll and cut it down the middle to make a flat piece of cardboard. Then I drew petals filling the entire piece. Next I cut them out and I ended up with a pile of petals.

Form the Petals

Then I rolled three petals very tightly and hot glued all three of them together. This formed the very center of the flower. Next, I added petals around the center. There is no specific order in which you have to add them. But for the outer layer, I started adding them higher and higher on the back so the flower would open more and appear more realistic.

Paint the Flower

I chose white paint for my flower. When you paint, make sure that you get the back sides of the petals as well. It is very helpful to do many coats on the flower so that no cardboard shows. In addition, this also makes the flower more stiff and stable. After the paint dries, you can hot glue a stick or any other base on as the stem.

Finished!

Then I took the flower outside and made some pretty pictures with it.
