Recycle Shipping Boxes Into a Cat Scratching Circle
My girlfriend moved in with her cat and I needed something to help train the lil guy to not claw up the carpet so I devised a plan to make use of all the shipping boxes in a different way. I’m a believer in Reduce, Reuse, and Recycling and particularly love to reuse things for another purpose. This is very easy and all you need are three to four things.
Supplies
-Scissors
-hot glue
-a cardboard box or two (depending on size and how big of a board you want)
-catnip (optional)
Cut!
Get your box and cut about 2-3 inch strips and attempt to make them even. It’s ok if they’re not because we will be gluing it to make one edge level as the top, and the other side can be janky as it will be face down the whole time.
Glue!
Glue up half of a cardboard strip one at a time and roll it on itself to get a circle forming. Make sure to pick the half without glue to be you level top side. I did this because I don’t want hot glue pockets to get stuck in the claws of the cat while he uses this. This is the most repetitive step and will make you question, “Why didn’t I just buy a cardboard circle for $10 at the store” and answer, “because I can build 🔨 and reuse ♻️ this leftover stuff!!”
Catnip!
Set it on the ground and lure your little cat out with a sprinkle of catnip to encourage him to use the board, add more strips if you want a bigger board, I’ll wait and see if he likes this before adding more work to my project. Have fun learning ways to reuse excessive materials!
