Recovering Lipo Batteries

IMG_20180105_190239.jpg

THIS IS A DANGEROUS DIY HACK

DONT DO IT IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

Lipo batteries when used for a long time, poor quality or used without maintenance, the cells lost the efficiency. Normally, the cell that will more affected are in positive pole.
You can save bad batteries, just remove bad cells and use different voltage battery.

Example, in one 4S bad battery, you can remove one cell and use one 3S battery in other gear. You can transform one 4S in one 2S battery for your fpv goggles also.

MATERIAL

Solder Station: Normally I use always 400Cº with large solder tip.

Solder

Sicors

Reinforced tape

Pvc heatshrink tube, 85mm its enough for one 4S 1300 75C battery

Multimeter

Opening Lipos

VERY IMPORTANT: never cut the heat-shrink tube protection with sharp blades, be careful, don't do it with knifes, just cut with scissors in the wires side and open with your hands.

REMOVE BAD CELLS

Desolder the bad cells, dont desolder all cells, just the bad cell.
I use 400Cº, you need to be very quickly, dont use lower temperature, if you use low temperature, do you only will overheat the cell.

IMPORTANT: Dont use sharp blades to separete cells.

I use a broken prop.

You can save the balance wires and main cable also.

Dont remove all wires at the same time because its to dangerous, risk of short and fire.

Destroy the bad cells, just put it on salt water, always make sure that cells dont have any voltage.

SOLDERING THE NEW CELLS

ATTENTION: You need to use the new cells with the same capacity and C rate.

WARNING: First check the cell polarity with multimeter.

Dangerous if you short it with wrong polarity.

Solder the wires to new cell

CLOSING THE BATTERY

Check all voltages in balance plug and main plug.

Put some reinforced tape to hold the wires.

Check if separate sponge are correct.

Put some reinforced tape around the cells

Check all voltages in balance plug and main plug.

Finally cut the pvc heatshrink.

DONE!
