Real Snow Play Dough

Snow day at your house? Put some of that snow to good use, and enjoy an easy, memorable time with your kids! In just ten minutes, you can make some bright white play dough using real snow, and the kids will have a warm and wonderful afternoon inside creating their own snow-themed fun!

And... if you happen to not have any snow, you can still make your own "snow day" play dough by just substituting plain water. (Just don't tell the kids!)

In a 3 quart saucepan, combine the dry ingredients:

• 1 c. flour
• 1/2 c. salt
• 2 T. cream of tartar

Mix well.

• 1 cup of real snow. Add just enough water to equal one cup (as it will pack down a bit.)

(Alternatively, if you don't have real snow, measure 1 cup of water.)

Add the snow (or water) to the saucepan.

To the saucepan, add the remaining wet ingredients:

• 1 T. vegetable oil
• 2 t. white liquid food coloring

Stir well.

Over medium-low heat, cook the mixture until it forms a ball, stirring constantly. Watch carefully to not over-cook; this step should only take about two minutes.

After the dough has formed a ball, remove the pan from the heat, and allow it to cool a few minutes, until cool enough to handle.

Place the fresh play dough on a clean surface, and knead it until smooth. Add silver and white glitter as desired.

Keep Play Dough in a tightly sealed bag in the refrigerator, where it will stay soft and pliable for weeks.
