Supplies:

Fabric

Cardboard

Scissors for fabric

Scissors for cardboard

Sewing Machine

Thread

Marker/pencil/pen (for marking patterns on Fabric)

Step 1: Cutting Out the Pattern

Take your piece of cardboard and cut it into a 6" by 6" square. It doesn't have to be perfect because when you trace it onto the fabric it will even out a little.

Step 2: Tracing Onto Fabric and Cutting Out the Pieces

You are going to need six of your squares to make a cube, plus in my case four 1" by 4" strips for hanging (you can also use ribbon for this purpose)

You trace the cutout of cardboard onto your fabric, and then cut it out with your fabric scissors.

You will also need to cut a hole into one of the pieces to use as a door for your pet.

Step 3: Laying Out the Pieces

Take your squares and lay them out in the pattern in the picture (this is the shape you get if you unfold a cube)

It will probably turn out better if you pin it together, but I don't do this I am lazy with pins and I tend to prick myself with them while I'm sewing...

Step 4: Sew It Together!

Now, use your sewing machine to stitch the flat together. Then one at a time fold up and stitch the sides to make a cube. Don't sew the top on yet! Finally take your ribbon or fabric strips and put them into the inside out cube (you sew inside out so that you can't see the seams. I mixed up and two of my seams are showing but my ratties won't care so I just left it) with the open end where the seams will be when the cube is done. you want to have a loop that you can put a hangar through when the cube is right side out.

Step 5: Done!

You did it!
