These gummies or chews are delicious, no matter what you call them. They have similar nutrition to commercial energy/sport gummies, but you can customize the flavor and sugar level and there's no extra preservatives. Super easy to make and less expensive, plus no disposable packaging make these a weekly treat in our house! We take them hiking and skiing for a little pick-me-up on the trail.

Makes approximately 32 small gummies or 225ml of gelatin syrup.

8 gummies

  • 150 calories
  • 4g protein
  • 38g carbs
  • 157mg sodium
  • 70mg potassium
  • 9mg vitamin C

Notes:

If you use honey, gummies will have strong honey flavor and be stickier.

Sugar/honey level can be reduced by up to half.

If you don't have a squeeze, bottle, liquid can just be poured into molds.

A small baking pan can be sprayed and used instead of silicone molds to chill gummies, just cut to size once firm.

Supplies

  • measuring cup (microwave safe, 500ml capacity)
  • small spatula
  • measuring cups and spoons, or kitchen scale
  • small silicone molds, tray to support molds
  • squeeze bottle (250ml capacity)
  • strainer
  • papertowel

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup (80ml) cold lime juice
  • 2-3 pkg (2-3 Tbsp/18.5-27.75g) powdered gelatin (2 pkg for soft, 3 pkgs for chewier)
  • 6 Tbsp (75g) sugar/honey
  • 1/4 cup (85g) maple syrup
  • ½ tsp (2.5g) citric acid (optional, for extra tangy flavor)
  • ¼ tsp (1.5g) salt
  • 1 Tbsp freeze dried raspberry powder (substitute 40ml raspberry puree for half of lime juice if you don't have raspberry powder)
  • vegetable spray for molds

Squeeze and measure lime juice into measuring cup.

Sprinkle gelatin over juice (2 packages for soft gummies, 3 packages for really chewy gummies).

Stir with spatula and leave for 5 minutes for gelatin to bloom.

It will be very thick after blooming.

Add all ingredients (except vegetable spray) to gelatin mixture and stir well.

Heat and Dissolve Ingredients

Remove spatula and place measuring cup in microwave.

Heat for 20 seconds and stir. Repeat 2 more times until gelatin and sugar are dissolved and mixture is very warm, but not too hot to touch. Do not boil.

Let cool for 10-20 minutes until just warmer than body temperature.

Strain and Skim

Spray molds with vegetable spray and blot off extra with paper towel. Place molds on tray for support.

Clear space in fridge for tray.

Skim any foam off top of gelatin syrup.

Strain syrup into squeeze bottle and put on lid. This step can be skipped if using strained raspberry puree and strained lime juice.

Mold Shapes and Refrigerate

Squeeze syrup into silicone molds.

Place tray in fridge to set-up for 1 hour.

Pop gummies out of molds and place in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Gummies can also be placed on a drying rack in the fridge for up to 24 hours to create a chewier exterior.

Enjoy!
