A pastime of mine is developing patterns for different crochet Pokémon. My latest pattern was Mimikyu, and I decided to use one of my multi-colored O'Go skeins to create a unique stuffed animal. This pattern is a 3.5/5 in terms of difficulty, as some of the techniques used for the more intercut features utilize techniques that may be difficult for beginners. I hope you find this pattern as fun as I found!

Supplies

  1. 4.5 mm crochet hook
  2. Rainbow O'Go red heart super saver yarn
  3. Big Twist value yarn in color burgundy
  4. Darning needle
  5. Regular needle
  6. Red/Black thread
  7. Stuffing

Abbreviations you'll need to know

sc - single crochet

inc - increase

dec - decrease

mg circle - magic circle

ch - chain

  8. Cut and weave ends
  9. On the stitch next to the finished flap, weave into the body once again (shown in the picture) and repeat these steps until 6 flaps have been made

Mimikyu Bottom

  1. Mg circle 6 (6)
  2. inc x 6 (12)
  3. (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
  4. (2sc, inc) x 6 (24)
  5. (3sc, inc) x 6 (30)
  6. (4sc, inc) x 6 (36)
  7. (5sc, inc) x 6 (42)
  8. (6sc, inc) x 6 (48)

Next, repeat the step 2 to create 6 flaps around the bottom

Then, sew the bottom and body together, aligning the flaps. Before fully closing, stuff to desired firmness. I chose to stuff less firm in the neck so that he can tilt his head.

Finally, cut and weave the ends.

The 'Face' and the Face

To make Mimikyu's actual eyes, sew two vertical lines, about three rows tall, 8 stitches apart, in around the middle of the body.

For the costume's face, chain one strand of 20, and one of 15 in burgundy. Take some scraps of red yarn and chain two strands of 15. I then took a strand of burgundy yarn to stand in place as the mouth before I sewed it in. I then pinned all of the pieces into place, before using a needle and thread to sew down the eyes and cheeks. I pinned the cheeks and eyes in a spiral to mimic the scribbled face of the actual Pokémon. Finally, I used the darning needle to sew the mouth. After this step, you can set the body aside as you work on the pieces to be added to the piece.

  10. Ch 1, dec, 2sc, dec (4)
  11. Ch 1, 2dec (2)
  12. Ch 1, 2sc

Cut off an weave ends

Start by sewing the oval to both tops of the sides of the tail. Then, sew down each side, stuffing as you go.

After the tail is fully sewn and stuffed, pin to the flap at two O'clock. (In a top-down view of plush, the flap that would point to two on a clock. For further clarification, the final image in this set should be helpful). Finally, sew onto the flap.

(I decided to make two slightly different ears to make him look slightly more scraggly. If you would prefer to make the same set of ears, then just make two of either pattern.)

Next, pin them onto the head in the orientation you like.

Sew them on

Cut and weave ends

Enjoy!
