Rainbow Laptop Case
In our increasingly technology-dependent world, it can be difficult to show personality when surrounded by machines. Why not add a touch of originality by designing your own colorful laptop case. The possibilities are endless when it comes to patterns and designs, so it's the perfect way to express yourself!
Supplies
For this tutorial you will need:
-A clear laptop case (I bought mine on Amazon for less than $10)
-Permanent markers
-Scotch tape or masking tape
-Duct tape
Begin Decorating
Begin drawing patterns on your case. Integrate things like solid lines as well as intricate designs like chevron, diamonds, or triangles. Also, use different colors for each design; some can be multiple colors and others just one.
Start at the edge of the case and use a long strand of Scotch/masking tape to insure that your lines are straight. After you finish drawing a row, peel the tape off and move the tape along the case to add another row. Move the tape farther away for a thicker line and closer for a thinner line.
I outlined the Apple sign on my laptop, so that when the computer is on, the glow from the logo stands out.
Finish Decorating
After you have completely decorated the case, cover it with strands of the clear duct tape. This prevents the marker from rubbing off due to daily use. Another way I have done this is by cutting a piece of contact paper to fit, then peeling the backing off and sticking it on.
Use strands that are longer than the case and lay them horizontally. BE CAREFUL when doing this because if you lay the tape incorrectly, you can rub off the marker when you peel the tape off. Make sure to overlap each strand a little bit so that it doesn't peel off. Smooth out as many bubbles as you can and then cut the edges as close to the case as possible.
If you're worried that the tape will ruin the sleekness of the case and your design, you barely notice the tape once it is on. People will be more impressed with the case itself than looking for the cosmetic issues.
VoilĂ !
You can now show off your original laptop case to everyone at school/work! Be prepared to answer the question, "Wow! Did you do this yourself?" a lot. Feel free to leave a photo of how it turns out!
