Rainbow Crayon Coaster

Crayon reminds me of my school days. I loved to colour with crayons. My mother would buy a whole bunch of them every month because I would lose all of them here and there! The new box set would look so pretty that I tried my best to not play around much and disturb the rainbow setup. But alas! I would end up placing the crayons in the wrong places after use and it would not look the same again.

Keeping that in mind, I made a permanent set of crayon coasters with similar rainbow shades to a crayon box. You can't move the crayons so you would have no fear of losing them anymore ;) These look just like a new box of crayons i.e., very colorful, vibrant, catchy, and ofcourse cute.

The crayon coaster is very easy to make and acts as a stiff and sturdy coaster after the glue on it dries. The crayons won't leave a mark on your table and they won't even melt. Overall the coaster is very durable and long-lasting.

Also, they make wonderful gifts and I'm sure you're loved ones are going to get excited after receiving them.

So I present you the DIY of the Rainbow Crayon Coaster...

Here's what you need for making the Rainbow Crayon Coaster

1. Long plastic crayons (I have used a set of 24 different shades for this project)
2. Fevikwick or any glue whose drying time is the shortest.
3. 1 Crayon Tray that comes with the pack of crayons that you're using
4. 1 foam Sheet
5. 1 tracing paper
6. 1 plastic sheet
7. 1 pair of scissors
8. 1 pencil (I used a mechanical pencil)
9. 1 permanent marker
10. 1 30-inch plastic ruler
11. 1 sharp blade or cutter
12. Some heavyweight ( a stone or book)

1. Take the tracing paper and make a 12 cm x 12 cm square on it with the help of a pencil.
2. Join its diagonals with a pencil.
3. Divide the square into four equal parts having 5 cm as its sides.
4. Lastly, mark a 1 cm boundary around the entire 12 cm x 12 cm square from its edges.

Refer to the picture above for more clarity.

1. Cut the 12 cm x 12 cm square out of the tracing paper with the help of scissors.

1. Keep this cut-out square part on a foam sheet and cut the foam sheet along the square dimensions. The foam must exactly match the dimensions of the tracing paper square i.e., 12 cm x 12 cm in size.

1. Take a long crayon and measure 5 cm from its end with the help of a ruler.
2. Mark 5 cm on it with the use of a permanent marker.

Use a sharp blade or cutter to cut out 5 cm of crayon.

1. Take a crayon tray and keep 5 crayons of your choicest shades in the tray as seen in the picture. Also, place the 5 cm cut-out part in the middle of them.
2. Use a ruler to mark the 5 cm length on all of them with the help of the cut-out crayon as a reference.
3. Cut out all crayons with a length of 5 cm.

1. Make 3 more batches of 6 crayons for each of your choicest shades and cut out 5 cm from each one of them from their ends.

1. Take any leftover 8 parts of the crayons of your choicest colour with the narrow tip and measure 2 cm with the help of a ruler from their ends and cut in a similar way as step 6.
2. Repeat this for all 8 narrow ending parts of the leftover crayons.

1. Take the 5 cm crayon parts, apply Fevikwick on them and quickly stick them on the tracing square paper horizontally and vertically barring the 1 cm boundaries as shown.
2. On the 1 cm boundary stick the narrow parts along with the 2 cm cuts outs as shown. The narrow endings must face each other from the centre of the boundaries, and the 2 cm cuts outs must be behind them.
3. Place a plastic sheet on top of this, place some weights, and let this dry for 1 day.

1. When the coaster has dried completely, turn it back and take the 12 cm foam cut out.
2. Stick it with lots of glue on the back of the coaster. Let this dry for another day till it becomes stiff and hard.

And with that, your rainbow crayon coaster is ready! The plastic crayons won't leave any stains on the table or on any surface. So be relaxed while enjoying your tea or coffee.

The coaster is very vibrant. I'm sure the kids will love it!
