I've been getting into Kumihimo - the Japanese art of braiding recently. I've made up this pattern for a rainbow chevron flat braid.

Fastening - I'm using an 10mm magnetic barrel clasp

Cut Rattail Satin Lengths and Tie

Cut 100cm lengths of each of your 8 colours of rattail satin.

I'm using red, orange, yellow-green, green, light blue, dark blue, purple and silver - rainbow colours + silver for the clouds.

Fold in half and tie in the middle using a spare bit of cord.

Set Up Your Kumihimo Disk

Light blue in 15 and 17

Dark blue in 15 and 16

Remove From Disk and Tape End

IMG_20220708_173053517.jpg

Carefully remove the ends of the cords from your kumihimo disc, gather together and secure with some tape.

Bind and Glue Before Cutting

IMG_20220708_225219498.jpg

Tie some thread round your braid and add glue over the top. This is to secure the braid before we cut it.

Wait for the glue to dry before cutting

Measure Your Bracelet

IMG_20220708_224758704.jpg

Check your wrist size and measure the length you want the bracelet to be.

Bind and glue the second end at the correct length.

Cut the Ends and Prepare for Adding Your Clasp

IMG_20220718_165050136.jpg

Cut the ends at the point just beyond where you have bound and glued the ends.

I'm using a magnetic barrel clasp for this bracelet so separate the ends and position ready to glue..

Glue on Your Clasp

Put some glue inside the clasp then push onto the end of your kumihimo braid.

Do this for both end then leave to dry.

Ready to Wear
