The RN-series, manufactured by Industrial Automaton as a durable workhorse-variant of the R2 series, specializes in operating in the most harsh environments of the Outer Rim. Able to withstand and perform no matter the weather, RN units are dedicated to getting the job done. As such, all RN units are fitted with "no-frills" behavior chips so that their work ethic remains unwavering. Key features of the droid include:
- Dual all-terrain treads
- Extended body hub
- Various multi-tool arms (including industrial welder and protective visor)
RN-55 (a.k.a: "Wrangler") worked with his owner as Moisture Vaporator Contractors for many farms on Tatooine. His expertise in building, repairing, and maintaining vapor spires was paralleled by no other droid and even most humanoid lifeforms. His sabaac-faced demeanor left no room for funny business and because of this, he was always the target for the local farm children's mischievous pranks. While he may not have been the friendliest piece of metal on the homestead, he proved his affection for his community the only way an RN-unit knew how: hard work.
Process:
I thoroughly enjoyed creating RN-55 from ideation to 3D modeling. I took a lot of inspiration from the Original Trilogy and knew I wanted to create a true hardworking astromech from the start. While I have worked in other 3D model software in the past, this was my first experience with Fusion 360. The challenge of learning a new program while creating a fun concept for Star Wars was the most fulfilling part of this journey. Thank you for this opportunity and hope you enjoy my work!
