i needed a pair of breakout boxes for my projects using CAT5 runs.
Cat5 runs are handy for carrying, power, data, video and audio.
These breakout boxes are handy when prototyping and testing cat5 runs for custom projects.

Supplies

25x16 trunking
rj45 female socket with pcb
cat5 cable 10cm.
hot glue gun
solder
terminal pcb connectors - recycled from an old alarm panel.

Solder Up

solder the rj45 female socket to terminal connectors.

both pairs should be wired identically. Dont mirror the wiring.

Hack a Case

cut up your 25x16 trunking with grooves for sliding in the terminal blocks

Hot Glue

hot glue the terminal blocks and rj45 to trunking. snap it shut.

Test It

join the two boxes with a fully connected straight cat5 cable.
use a meter in continuity test mode for testing end to end connectivity (1to1, 2to2,...8to8)

Use It !

dont forget, that if you wish to use the properties of twisted pairs, use as illustrated on the label: 1&2 3&6 4&5:7&8. Maximum current for 24awg cat5 cable is 2.2Amps per core wire.

In the example above I use 3 pairs, for power, data and video.

Perfect!
