✿RASPBERRY PLANTS WINTER CARE✿

Raspberry plants are easy to care for, and don't need much attention, but with those simple cares you will improve the quality and quantity of their fruits.
Is an instructable for winter care, when all the leaves are fallen down, but before the start of the sprouts in the spring.

This is an instructable for organic care.

I think it is important to do those thinks also if you only have few plants.

First cut away all the old plants (the ones that made the fruits the year before), from the very bottom.

You can recognize them because they are branched, they are dead and they will not make fruit again (raspberry are an annual plant). The new one are usually only made with one unique straight trunk.

Cut away all the sick plant, the one that look more unhealthy or rotten, the one attacked by parasites, molds and fungus or the one that are too small or weak .

This operation is really important because the sickness or parasite can spread to all the other plant or compromise the quality, quantity and the taste of the fruits.

The photos are of the main sicknesses your plant can have, but there is many other kinds, also depending from where they are and from the amount of rain and parasites of the year.

Tie the plants to a stick (if you only have few plants) or to an horizontal wire (if you have many plants), doing a twist around the wire too, so they don't change place. You can tie up to 3 plant for knot.

Use a gummy tier, to don't strangle the plant (I used inner tube stripes).

Thin the plants to about 10 trunks for linear meter.

Cut the tops to about 1,30 meter.

It's important to burn as soon as possible all the sick plants that you cut out, to prevent the sicknesses to spread out to all the plants.

Make a mixture with water,copper (mountain-green) and sulfur (follow direction on package) and spry the plants, especially near the routs, and the dirt under them.
They are both organic.

Also this operation is really important, because it protect the plants during the winter from sicknesses, fungi and molds.

Fertilize with an organic potassium fertilizer, or manure.
