COCONUT OIL Lipgloss

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for checking out my second (whoo-hoo) Instructable.

For the OIL challenge I'm going to show you how I make my own tinted lip gloss.

It's SUPER easy. Non-toxic. Good for your kisser. And fun to make.

You control how intense the color is, sheer to opaque.

It also makes a great gift.

So lets get started.

YOU WILL NEED:

1. COCONUT OIL...to get the best results, I use unrefined coconut oil,

often labeled "virgin". Sometimes labeled as both!

(go figure). For the rest of this Instructable I will use

the acronym VCO (virgin coconut oil).

2. CRAYOLA® CRAYONS...or any brand of crayons labeled as non-toxic.

3. SMALL CONTAINERS...I found this RAINBOW stack at a $ store. It was

packaged as a weekly pill organizer. You could use

the ones labeled M,Tu, W, Th, F, S,S. They have 7

separated sections, the RAINBOW has 7 colors...

PERFECT!

4. A SMALL PAN, or BOWL or other vessel...to melt your crayons in.

5. MEASURING SPOONS...1/4 and 1/2

6. RULER...to measure your crayon cut

7. KNIFE...to cut the crayon

8. NAPKINS or PAPER TOWELS...I used coffee filters. (I have a package of to

small for my coffee maker). You will need them to wipe out your pot or bowl.

CUT THE CRAYONS

First I cut off 1" from each crayon.

Then I decided to use 2" because my containers were

kinda big.

MELT THE CRAYON

You are going to melt your crayon pieces with the VCO.

For each inch of crayon you will add 1/2 t. VCO for a tinted sheen.

or 1/4 t. VCO if you prefer a more opaque lip color.

I used this little double-boiler type pan. I heated water to a boil in a kettel,

then poured some into the bottom of the pan. Crayon and oil on top. This worked great.

I didn't want to put this little pan on my stove top burner. I thought it might all get too hot to handle.

Keep stirring

I also didn't try this in the microwave, but you could probably do it that way.

Just be sure to keep a close eye on it.

POUR INTO CONTAINERS

Once the crayon is melted, and it well blended with the VCO,

Pour it into your container of choice.

While it cools, use the paper towels to clean out your pot or bowl, and move on to the next color in your rainbow.

Do this for each COLOR.

COOL

Cool completely.

VCO will remain solid up to 76'F. (24.5'C)

So even if your lip gloss gets warmer than that, the crayon prevents it from becoming a liquid.

so PUCKER UP!

BUT WAIT. THERE'S MORE

ANOTHER RAINBOW

I went ahead and made another RAINBOW of Lip Gloss in non-traditional colors

I use 2" of each RAINBOW color of crayon. 1" of silver and gold.

Do just like you did before melt, stir, pour and cool.

then you will have a ...

BRIGHT RAINBOW
