Reconnaissance Analysis Guide, Model C, Unit 33

The Recon. Analysis Guide is a quick response maintenance droid typically found on larger ships and in larger facilities. Brightly colored, they are deployed when damage occurs as the first “eyes” on the scene to observe and assess what repair actions are required. Units are individually numbered and stowed in racks of fifty. These droids feature a range of swappable sensors, including multi-spectral cameras, LIDAR, and ultrasonic rangefinders. Information is relayed back through a pair of “ear” antennas. Due to the dangerous nature of this work these droids often suffer damage and are considered modular and disposable. It is not uncommon to have a functioning unit cobbled together from undamaged parts of its fellows.

“Cheez”

Cheez is a Mod. C droid numbered 33. He was purchased from a repair shop on Akiva run by some punk kid. Since maintenance droids tend to be no-nonsense Cheez has been modified to have a larger personality. The most prominent trait is his insistence on being called by his name and what is assumed to be a rude gesture (that the kid swears he didn’t teach him.) He is generally very helpful and literal but with a sarcastic bent. Silly or rude queries are often met with some side eye and a raised eyebrow. In his current role he uses his observational sensors to keep track of the environment and warn of anyone approaching which comes in handy when doing business in less reputable establishments. He will literally watch your back.

Design Description

From the start Cheez was designed to be a 3D printed physical object. The goal was to make a small stand-alone mechanical prop. This current iteration features deployable legs, servo controlled ears and eyebrow, built in piezo speakers and an ultrasonic rangefinder with room to incorporate future design upgrades. These are all controlled with a Raspberry Pi Zero W and a PiSugar battery pack. The wireless function allows for remote control to facilitate improvisation with a character and give a sense of sentience.
