R2D2 Star Wars Charm Bookmark
This R2D2 charm bookmark is a great craft/gift for book lovers. It adds so much personality to the outside of whatever book you may be reading. You just need a little bit of sculpting and jewelry making skills - anyone can make this craft!
Supplies
- Polymer Clay (white, gray, black, red, blue)
- Metal Bookmark
- Beads
- Eyepin
- Headpin
- Wire Cutters
- Needle Nose Pliers
- Sculpting Needle Tool
Scupting R2D2
White Clay - sculpt a squat cylinder for the body and two flat strips for the legs.
Gray Clay - sculpt a dome and place it on top of the white cylinder for his head.
Blue Clay - make many tiny balls. Place one directly on top of his head and press it flat. Then place six in a ring around the center dot. Place an elongated dot on the bottom of the dome where the front will be and one larger dot just above it. Place the remaining dots evenly spaced around the entire bottom of the dome.
Sculpting R2D2 (cont.)
Blue Clay - make three small strips and place them evenly spaced down the front of the white body
Red Clay - make a tiny dot and place it on the right side of the elongated blue dot on the front of the dome
Black Clay - make a tiny dot and place it in the center of the larger blue dot on the front of the dome
Use the needle tool to gently imprint lines into the body and dome to add a mechanical texture. Add the two legs to both sides of the body and cut any that exceeds past the bottom of the body.
Getting Ready to Bake
Gently push a headpin through the bottom of the body and try to keep it center as you push through the top of the dome. Place on a piece of parchment paper on a baking tray and bake in the oven at 250 degrees for 15 minutes.
Attaching the Charm Bookmark
Use the wire cutters to cut excess wire on the headpin. Use the needle nose pliers to create a small loop at the top of R2D2. Hook the eyepin onto the loop and squeeze the loop closed with the pliers. Add any beads you'd like onto the eyepin and then bend the wire and create a small loop with the pliers. Hook it onto the hole in the metal bookmark and squeeze the loop closed.
Your R2D2 bookmark is done! Show your cute little guy off by marking your favorite book with it.
