Quilled Mardi Gras Mask

This is a quilled Mardi Gras mask with a peacock motif. This was my first quilling project that went beyond simple cards or gift tags.

Materials Needed:

  • A base for your mask; you will need something that you can stick straight pins into. I used a foam head, but a foam mask form would also work
  • 5 mm quilling papers
  • Mod Podge or craft glue
  • Quilling tool

Make plenty of quills in the colors and sizes of your choice. Smaller quills will work better for the nose area and looser quills work better for the more rounded areas around the eyes. Attach the quills to the foam with a straight pin and glue them to each other, not to your base.

Once you have completed the mask, remove all of the pins and mod podge generously over the entire top of the mask. You will need to mod podge any parts of the mask that will be hanging off separately as these will be very difficult to handle if they are already attached to the mask.

The finished product! Allow it to dry completely before carefully removing it from the form.
