QuickJack Assembly
Oh yeah... The QuickJack BL-5000SLX baby! A portable lift for your garage. Here's a series of color pictures showing you step-by-step assembly.
Inspect and Get Everything Out of the Boxes
You'll have three or four boxes containing the power unit, the left and right lift and optionally the SUV kit. Check for damage even if the boxes look OK. One of the hydraulic hoses was pinched even though the box was fine. The little plastic caps might have been mangled during shipping. They are just to protect the frame and serve no functional purpose.
Lay Everything Out
Remove Shipping Caps
Using a 6mm hex wrench, remove the shipping caps from the hydraulic pistons.
Install 90-degree O-rings to Hydraulic Cylinders
On my jack, one of the cylinders was welded so that I couldn't install this fitting without removing the cylinder. You can do so by removing the bolt as shown in the picture.
Wrap teflon tape around the threads, making sure that no tape passes over the end of the threads. Use an 11/16" wrench to tighten.
Re-install the Schrader Inflation Valves
Remove the inflation valves as they are poorly installed (see pictures). Wrap teflon tape around the threads. Inspect the valve - if you see that the plunger sticks out, it may be defective and you will need to contact QuickJack for a replacement.
Pressurize Air Cylinders
Use an air supply to pressurize the air cylinders to no more than 50 psi.
Inspect Power Unit
Verify that the electrical connections are secure. Mine were not (see pictures).
Install Power Unit Fittings
The power unit is supplied assembled. Remove the plastic shipping plugs.
Install the double male O-ring fittings with the O-ring towards the power unit (inward). Wrap teflon tape around the threads facing outwards, making sure that the tape does not go over the end.
Fill Power Unit With Fluid
Remove the oil reservoir cap and screw nut assembly. Use an adjustable wrench - it is easier.
Use Dextron III power steering fluid to fill the power unit. Fill volume is listed as 2.5 quarts/2.3 liters, but it seems to be less at least initially. Fill to about 2 quarts, then continue assembly. Top it up later so that there fluid comes to half an inch from the top of the reservoir.
Install Fittings to Long Hoses
Wrap teflon tape around the threads of the two long hoses. These take the fluid from the power unit to the short hoses that will be attached to each lift.
Now fit the four female quick connect fittings and tighten.
Prepare the Short Hoses
Wrap teflon tape around the threads of the short hoses.
Attach the male quick connect fittings to one end of each hose.
Attach the other end of the hose to the 90-degree fitting on the lifts.
Feed the hose so that it is not pinched.
Hook It Up!
Plug it in and hook up the hoses. Make sure that the breather valve on the reservoir of the power unit is loosened.
Using the handheld controller, raise the lift the lift a little to make sure it is hooked up properly.
I suggest standing on the lifts (put them close together) and raising and lowering them to prime the system and to get fluids flowing.
With the lift raised to the halfway point. Locate the bottom of the hydraulic cylinder. You will find a bleeding valve, which you can loosen with a hex wrench. Carefully back this off to release trapped air. You may need to move each lift to a standing position in turn.
Now lower the lifts to floor the lowest level.
Check the fluid reservoir and top up with remaining hydraulic fluid.
Remove air from the air cylinders and refill to below 50 psi.
You're all set!
