Quick and Easy Personalized Pillowcases
Hello!
My name is Jessica Johnson and I have been sewing and making crafts since I was 7 years old. I have always loved finding quick and easy projects to make for myself or as gifts. Have you ever wanted to have a more personal pillowcase than a store bought one or can’t figure out what to get someone for Christmas that is custom to the person? This is a great option! In just 5 steps I will show you how to make a quick and easy pillowcase for yourself or as a gift. Once you get the fabric it takes as little as 15 minutes to make a cool and custom pillowcase that will last for a long time for anyone.
What Do You Need?
All you need is 3 pieces of fabric, sewing machine and thread or needle and tread, an iron or hair straightener, scissors and a pillow. The fabric can be fleece or cotton, whatever you would like to lay your head on. You should have 3 separate pieces. One that is 27 inches long, which will be the main part of your pillowcase. Another piece that is 1 1/2 inch long, this will be the accent piece and the last one should be 9 inches long, which will be the edge of the pillowcase. All fabric should be at least 40 inches wide.
Stack 'em Up!
First, lay the 9 inch piece of fabric down on a table, on top of that lay the 27 inch fabric down with the pattern or outside side up, last fold the 1 1/2 inch piece in half and iron it so it stays folded then add it to the stack. The stack should have all the edges lined up and straight. Then should be pinned together. Make sure the edges are straight so that when they are sewn they will be straight.
Roll It Up!
After, the edges have been pinned together they should be rolled up. First, start by rolling up the largest piece of fabric until the edge of the 9-inch piece is reached. Then, line up the edge of the 9-inch piece with the top edges that are pinned together with the roll inside, pin in place. Make sure to take out the first row of pins when pinning the roll up. It's easiest to just go down the line and use the pins already there to pin the roll up.
Sew It Up!
Now sew a ¼ inch seam across the width of the pillowcase which were just pinned together, creating a long tube. When sewing make sure you are only sewing the edges together and not any of the rest of the fabric. To unroll the burrito, begin by pulling the rolled fabric out of one end of the long tube that was just created. Keep pulling the fabric out until the pillowcase is right side out. Iron or straighten the cuff fabric of the pillowcase so the fabric will stay flat. The fabric should be flatted so the accent piece is lying flat on the main part of the pillowcase and the cuff is away from the main part.
Trim It Up!
When the fabric is flat go around and trim the fabric to a width of 20 inches and the length to 28 inches. Once the edges are trimmed fold the pillowcase in half so that the patterned side are on the outside and pin in place. Now sew a ¼ inch seam around the side and the bottom of the pillowcase.
Sleep It Up!
Finally, turn the pillowcase inside out, iron the seams flat and poke out the corners. Now sew a 3/8-inch seam over the seam that was just sewn so that they are enclosed. Once the seams are enclosed flip the pillowcase right way out. Put a pillow inside your pillowcase and you are ready for a great night sleep!
