Quick and Easy Giant Leaf Baby Blanket

finish.jpg

To make this Quick and Easy Scrap Baby Quilt you will need the following;

#1 one piece of pre-quilted fabric.....you could cut up an old quilt.

#2 one piece of soft textured fabric, such as velour, velvet, minky or corduroy.

#3 fun fringe..I used pom-pom.

#4 various colored scraps of fabric

#5 bias tape

#6 colored yarn

...and of course Scissors and a sewing machine.

The Foundation

The first thing you want to do is cut out a random leaf shape from your pre-quilted fabric. Typically baby blankets are around a yard to a yard and a half. I have chosen the latter as this blanket will be used on the floor as a play pad and as a fun reference in pictures to see how big the baby is growing.

The next thing you'll want to do is cut a second smaller leaf shape from your chosen soft textured fabric Then pin and sew it in place. Don't get too technical here leaves come in all shapes and sizes...and nobody is going to reference check your leaf, so relax.

The Binding and Some Detail.

Next sew on your binding....you can make it if you want, But I bought mine and this project used approximately 21/2 packages of bias tape.

Next, begin adding fringe of choice to inside leaf.

Have Fun and Get Creative

Now get your scraps together and start cutting shapes, lay them out until you have something you are pleased with and pin in place.

Sew Everything Down

Sew everything down, use a regular stitch then go over it with a decorative stitch. Use yarns as leaf veins and stitch them down with a zigzag stitch. Instead of sewing the edges down on some of my scraps, I chose to fringe cut them to add more texture to the blanket.

Add Baby.

That's it....just add baby.
