Quick Stash - Hide in Plain Sight

IMG_20150511_143033.jpg

I saw lots of super hiding places made by all you folks.

Thought I would share mine.

So if the time comes that I might have to make a fast get-a-way.. from the house when the walking dead are coming, What would you grab first?

1. protection.. sure

2. food maybe...

3. cash or something you could trade for gas and or food on the run..

This is my first time uploading, so bare with me.

So last week I was out checking yard sales and such. Most of the time people will part with what they think is junk.

I happened to find an old wall electric box. they only wanted a dollar ( $1.00 ) so I paid my dues.

Finding the Right Box

This is the box I got.

Simple metal box with hinges and a latch. But also a hanging tab at the top. and THIS is very important if you were going to make a quick get-a-way.

Cutting the Coin Slot

First I cut a slot in the top.

this is so I can add to the stash without taking it down.

I used a drill to make 2 small holes. Then a jig saw with metal blade to make the cut.

I messed up a little... but who cares.

This is big enough for coins - bills and things like that.

Clean Out the Inside

I then lined it with old rug so as not to make noise when I dropped in coins.

Paint and Destress It

The idea of hiding in plain site is to not be noticed by the wrong person..

SO I

painted it the same as the wall in the garage.

I then picked up some fine brown dust from outside and blew it with a puff of air.

But only from the top and let it fall where it wanted. This was to look like it has not been touch or opened for long time.

You don't want to over do it. You would not want the wife to try and dust it off and find the stash would you?

Hang It Up

This box has several holes on the back to hang on a wall.. if it were being used for an electrical box.

But remember that tag hanger I told you about on top.

I just placed 1 screw on the wall where I wanted it to hang and painted it after I hung the box.

DONE and DONE.

Now I can hide all the cash I want.

The only person to open the box to shut off the water will be me anyway.. And I already know the heater switch is not in this box.

Bet the wife does not know the box is even there, so I can save a few bucks...

Vote for me please.
