Quick Foot Formed Wrist Warmer

IMG_5993.jpg

This is a quick sewing guide to create a wrist/hand warmer using your foot as a form. Sounds weird huh. It's based on the typical ratios of foot and wrist sizes. Not guaranteed to fit everyone. Especially not guaranteed for your foot formed warmer to fit someone else's wrist. Takes around 5-10 minutes. Wow, fast!

Supplies

Just a few basic supplies. A sewing machine (with thread), a cutting mat, a rotary cutter (or scissors), a piece of scrap paper about 2x as big as your foot, a pen or pencil, and some warm fabric you'll like to use -- also 2x as big as your foot per wrist warmer.

Use Your Foot!

Here we go!

  1. Fold the scrap paper in half.
  2. Align your foot along the folded edge with your heel at the bottom of the paper. Toes can go outside the paper, that's okay. We don't need them.
  3. Trace your foot up to the base of the toes.
  4. Cut out the tracing to produce your pattern.
  5. Get out your cutting mat and fabric.
  6. Use your rotary cutter (or scissors) to cut the fabric along the pattern.

Fit Check, Sew and Trim

Get excited to sew.

  1. Take a moment to admire the wrapped fabric around your wrist. The places corresponding to where your toes and heel were on the pattern should meet. Adjust as needed. If it looks good, get sewing!
  2. Break out your sewing machine and thread it. Sew together where the heel and toes portion meet. There should be a hole left in the middle.
  3. Trim off any remaining threads.

Explore the Ways to Wear, And... Make More?

Now you're done. Take a look at some ways to wear it and own it.

  1. Slip on over the wrist, pop your watch face through the hole, and dazzle your friends and family, or
  2. Slip your thumb through the hole to hide your wearables and gain that extra palm warmth, or
  3. Flip the warmer inside out and use on the other arm.

You can use the same pattern for the other arm too. Repeat the process for as many warmers as you'd like to make. And if you find someone else that fits your warmer, you should compare feet! Enjoy.
