hello so you want to start pyrography so now let's choose the pen they don't have to be expensive at all they can start from £19 to £50 for a good enough pen to start you off with your new super duper fun hobby.

i use the Kirstie Allsopp Pyrography Kit from hobbycraft for only £25 (http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/kirstie-allsopp-pyrography-kit/601704-1000) this kit is a really good kit it contains everything you'll ever need a pen, booklet, tips, wood pieces and keyrings and you can not go wrong for the price

i do not reckon that you buy the cheap pryography pens from Amazon or eBay for around £10 http://www.amazon.co.uk/30W-240V-PYROGRAPHY-WOOD-BURNING-WORKING/dp/B015QBLNTE/ref=sr_1_26?ie=UTF8&qid=1448479301&sr=8-26&keywords=pyrography because they can not get hot enough or break in a matter of seconds.

Tips

there are many tips you can get for your pyrography pen the picture above are the ones you will use the most for beginning of your new hobby

.universal nib used for general use like straight lines of different thickness by changing the angle of the pen

.point nib this nib will be the one you use most it is like a ball point pen so it is easy to use

.shading nib this nib is for shading so use it very lightly so you do don't shade it to dark

Wood

ideally you will want to start of with birch wood becase it burn at a low temperature and is easy to use. most soft woods will do for pyrography

but i recommend sanding down your wood to get a super smooth finish also it will look better for the end results if you spend time in this bit

this is a super cool hack which will make all of your all right pyrography projects look like its been done by a pro who has been doing this for years

first step get some carbon copy paper and tape it to your wood then get a image you want from a magazine print out then tape it to carbon copy paper and draw over the image and take off it should reveal a perfect outline of the image you just drawn which will aid so much pyrography

Burning

with your perfect outline you get the point tip and go all round your outline and then sand down just enough to get your old outline off or just paint over it like in the next step. you might want to do this in a well ventilated area because it smells of burning but i like it. also you may have to go over it a couple of times

Painting

now you want to paint your piece of art i used normal acryllic paint really brings out the model

Finish

this step is optional but it just makes it looks nice

you can varnish it of spray a lacquer over it to make it stand out and look that much better
