Pyramid Structured Wall Pockets

Welcome to this instructable.

Well,here's a quick question from me: Did you ever see these triangular wall pockets anywhere?

I guess you haven’t.

Because ,these are very unique and we don’t actually find these anywhere. We know the hexagonal shelves,floating shelves and other great designed shelves.But these type of shelves are very rare.

These shelves are actually pyramids.These look so nice on walls and can store art supplies or kitchen tools.

Plus,these are made out of cardboard!

Important:This project involves some basic math.So,apply your brains!

Cardboard

Tape or glue

Colored sheets or paints

Double-sided tape

Scissors

Pencil and ruler for taking measurements

To form a pyramid,we need 3 appropriate measured triangles.

Triangle 1(Base):For the base,I took a 16 cm Equilateral triangle on the cardboard and I’ve cut it.To get an enclosed figure we should make the pockets or the sides of the pyramid which we should glue to the base.

Triangles 2 and 3(The pockets):For the sides of the pyramid,you need two congruent triangles.For that I took a rectangle of length 11.5cm and breadth of 11cm and diagonal of 16 cm.

Now,cut along the diagonal of the rectangle.You get two congruent triangles.

Now,we’ve got 3 triangles.

I thought that gluing the pyramid was so easy.But it turns out that it isn’t that simple.

I tried many ways to glue the pyramid,using normal glue and instant glues. But,I’ve found that the best way to make the pyramid to stay in it’s place is to tape it.

Taping process was so comfortable for me (comparing with the glues).So,I recommend to use a tape instead of glue( if you don’t have a hot glue gun ).

I’m not an expert or a master in painting.I’m still learning it.

So instead of painting, I used colour papers to elaborate the wall pockets.I took the same measurements of the triangles on a color paper and sticked it on the wall pockets.

It also made the project simple and neat.

There’s a lot to discuss on this topic.

I’ve cut holes the triangles to hang it using nails.I hoped that it would work well.It somehow worked well but there are some drawbacks of hanging the wall pockets using nails.

1) No balance

When I cut the holes and hung it on the walls and started storing stuff ,there was a problem.There was no balance.When I put the pens on the right side ,it tilted to the right side.So,you actually have to balance on the both sides with equal weights if you hang it using nails.

2) A little mess

When the wall pockets are hung using nails it looks a little messy.The holes on the wall pockets damages the attractiveness of the wall pockets.

So,I tried using hanging the wall pockets using double-sided tape.It worked so well.

It was attractive,strong,there was no imbalance in the wall pockets and there was no damage.

For the other wall pocket, I tried a different measurement.

I took the base triangle to be 14.5 cm (of equal sides).

And I took a square of side 10.8cm and the diagonal to be 14.5cm.

Rest of the process was the same.

But this time I've added an extra feature.I added a popsicle stick to form a hook-like structure.(For hanging things like keychains).

That's it!

Attach these wall pockets next to your desk.Store your art supplies in the pockets and keep them handy.
