Put the Tack Back in Your Digital Cutting Mat!

Do you have a graveyard of cutting mats that just don't cut the mustard? Well you’re not the only one.

Cutting mats are accentual to all electronic craft cutters, but with all the projects and countless material types. The stick just isn't sticky anymore.

My favorite way to add some life back to the mat is so simple. This way you can save, your new mats for extra special stuff and use these for everything else.

I would just recommend a good roll on non-toxic PSA. (Pressure sensitive adhesive)

• Old digital cutting mats or make new one
• PSA ( pressure sensitive adhesive ) Roll on adhesive that stays tacky when dry.
• Mini paint roller
• Masking tape
• Ziploc bag
• Sharpie marker
• Nail polish remover
• Old t-shirt
• Scissors

Take the old mat and give it a good cleaning. If the old sticky material is peeling up scrape it off.

Put a little of the remover on a piece of old t-shirt. (If you just got your nails done might want to wear some gloves. Use the nail polish remover to help clean off any residue.

If the area is still sticky or has cuts in it, that is fine.

(Please be careful with the nail polish remover) use on appropriate work area.

Let it dry!

Now that the mat is clean and dry, begin taping off around the edge of the mat, leaving the area you want to be sticky.

Put a little of the PSA in you roller pan or plastic plate, get the roller coated well. Start by rolling on the adhesive in one direction and let dry a little, then roll opposite direction.

I prefer to roll on the adhesive it is much easier to control and no spraying to deal with.

You can add another coat if you like. Usually one coat in both directions is plenty.

Let Dry! (Do not use a heat gun it can warp your mat)

Now test the tackiness, this will let you know if you need more. If it is to sticky just press another piece of the old t-shirt on it, once or twice to lessen the tack.

Take the roller and place in the Ziploc bag; it will keep it moist for future use. Some adhesives can be cleaned up with soap and water, check the directions on the brand you use.

I mark the top of my mat with a sharpie so I will know how tacky it is.
