Ceramic Skateboard and Leg
Final stage published here.
This was a project I did in December of 2014.
Dimensions: H: 8 1/4 in. W: 2 in. D: 5 5/8
It is a high-fired ceramic piece. I had a lot of fun with this piece, Especially being aware of how it was going to balance throughout the process. First I constructed the leg; which needed to be hollowed, making sure the skateboard could support it. Once individually constructed, I conjoined the two when they were still in a moist state. Once it was a single piece I fired it in the upright position, to insure the balancing act would remain balanced. After it was fired, I applied a Red-Iron Oxide for a finish using an air-spray gun; (applying an even, consistent color throughout). Lastly, once the color was applied, I threw it into a low-fire batch to react with the stain, leaving it with a silver- varying coat.
