Purple Soft Plastic Fishing Lure
Here is how to make a purple soft plastic fishing lure that’s proven to catch fish!
Supplies
The tools required are:
- Fishing lure mold / https://store.do-itmolds.com/The-Gary-Yamamoto-Senko-4-5-and-6-inch-4-Cav_p_177.html
- Fishing lure injector / https://store.do-itmolds.com/Plastic-Injector--4oz-6oz-or-95oz_p_325.html
- Stirring knife
- Glass measuring cup (must be glass)
- Plastisol (the plastic used to make the lures) / https://deadonplastixllc.com/product/one-gallon-black/
- Table salt
- 1/4 teaspoon
- June bug coloring / https://deadonplastixllc.com/product/4-oz-dye-of-the-dead/
- Gold Midas flake glitter / https://deadonplastixllc.com/product/dead-flake/
- Two strong clamps
- Open windows and fan for good air circulation
- Old microwave that isn’t used for food
Heat Plastisol
Shake the bottle of plastisol for 5 minutes to mix thoroughly. Pour out 1 cup into the measuring cup. Put this in the microwave for two and a half minutes, stir thoroughly, put back in for 45 seconds, then stir. The mixture should be smooth and clear.
Add Color, Glitter, and Salt
Shake your June bug coloring bottle for 2 minutes, then add 30 drops of color to the plastic mixture. Measure out 1/2 teaspoon of gold flake glitter and add it to the cup. Then add 3/4 teaspoon salt. Mix until the color turns purple. Feel free to add more salt, it will make the baits weaker but sink in the water faster.
Inject the Baits
Next you’re going to mold the baits. Clamp your mold with at least two large clamps, and place it next to the cup of hot plastic. With your injector, draw up about half the cup, and inject in the mold until you feel pressure. Release the injector and cap when the plastisol sinks in farther. Empty the excess from the injector back into the measuring cup.
De-mold the Lures
Once the lures have been in the mold for about 5 minutes, unclamp it and open to reveal your new purple fishing lures. Just pinch off from the strip that runs down, and the lures are ready. They may be a bit soft right away, but they will harden within 48 hours.
Cleanup
To clean up, put all the excess hardened pieces back into the measuring cup to be re-heated and made into more baits. If you have different molds, feel free to make different baits, or make your own molds with a different instructable. To reheat, put in microwave for 45 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted.
Catch Fish
Now for the exciting part! To catch a fish, tie a medium sized hook onto a rod and either hook it at the end Texas rig style and reel in slowly, or my preferred method, hook through the middle or use an O-ring to hook through the middle to keep it on. Cast near docks and boat lifts, letting the lure sink and reeling in fast to get the fish to bite. Thanks for reading this Instructable, and have fun catching fish!
