Purple Rose Wheat Buns(No MAIDA, Fiber Rich Nutrients)
Hello all :)
Few Years ago, when i stayed at my friends room we started to try new variety of dishes on our own. That is when i started to make my own food and get some confidence to handle the kitchen on my own. So as per the saying, we explore new things when we step out of the comfort zone.
In continuation with that, we post the pictures of the dishes to facebook and increase its traffic jam from our side..:p
Rewinding back to those days of getting together with friends, ofcourse during lockdown...:D i started to try new recipes(which i have not made/ate earlier) and think about bringing innovation either in taste or design.
This Purple rose is one among them from my R&D kitchen...hehe... But guess these could have been made by someone else in other variation of ingredients. Just wanted to make a note, this may not be completely new but making of it, is a new thing for me.
Supplies
Wheat flour
Refined Brown sugar
Fresh milk
Butter
Cassava flour (Home made process of Grated, Partial sun dried, finely powdered and seived Cassava)
Dry yeast
Fresh ingredients:
Based on the colour requirement, here i have:
Beetroot
Palak/Spinach
Prepare Beetroot and Spinach
1. Clean beetroot and spinach
2. Remove outer layer of beetroot and slice to smaller pieces
3. Grind beetroot and spinach seperately to smooth paste
Getting the Flour Base Mix Ready
Now lets get the flour mix ready. I know and well understood the consequence of coansuming Refined flour/maida so i have cut down the consumption of refined flour and always keep an eye on it. Actually both the eyes..:D so i use wheat flour to make the flour mix.
To prepare the base dough we mix the below ingredients:
1. Wheat flour, 2-3 cups
2. Cassava flour
3. Dry yeast(dissolved in water)
4. Brown sugar(based on the sweet requirement)
5. Fresh milk
6. Melter butter
Process:
1. Take a clean bowl and add 2-3 cups of wheat flour
2. Dissolve dry yeast in water and pour on to the flour
3. Now, add brown sugar(as per your sweet requirement) to the mix
4. Mix them all together
Add Ingredients for Fluffiness
Take 1/2 cup of fresh milk to another bowl
Melt the butter and add to the bowl
Now mix the content to the base flour mix
Split the Flour Mix
Now lets split the base flour mix to three seperate bowl as per our purple, green and plain colour need.
Cassava Flour Addition to Bowls
Add one tablespoon of cassava flour to each of the bowl. This will help to bind the vegetable mix to the flour.
Beetroot, Spinach and Plain Flour Mix Ready
The chopped beetroot pieces were grind to fine paste and added to one of the bowl. Likewise the spinach paste to another bowl and the third bowl does not require any addition.
Prepare the Colour Doughs
Now we need to knead the dough, add the milk+butter milk if required and get the three colour doughs ready in seperate bowls.
Divide the Dough
We shall divide the dough to small & equal sized dough pieces from the colour doughs so that it is easy for us to roll it.
Roll the Dough With a Rolling Pin Until the Balls Resemble Thin, Round Pancakes.
To make this roll come perfect round, i used a small utensil in my kitchen. I spread the dough and pressed the cup onto the flour to get the perfect round. Do try it out, it is quite easy to get perfect round with round opened cups.
Arrange the Rolled Dough
Now lets arrange the rolled dough one on top of another as in the picture.
For the rose pattern, i am gonna use 5 beetroot dough rolls and 1 plain rolls to get the petal pattern.
Note:
Do grease the surface where you make the arrangement. Else the rolls may not come up easily while we try to fold it to petals format.
Lets Start Making the Rose Petals
I greased my hands with cooking oil and painted it over the top of the petal arrangement(at the center) so that it comes with ease and does not get sticked together.
Roll From the Right to Left
As we have the arrangement from the left to right(5 purple and 1 plain), and as the plain dough should come at the center we have to roll the doughs from right to left.
Lets See How the Petals Turned Out
Once the rolling is complete, we have to cut the rose part at the center so that we get two roses cut at the middle part of the rolled dough.
Now for the Sepal
Lets use the Spinach flour dough, which perfectly suits for the sepal.
I rolled the spinach dough and used knife to create three parts while the center is un-touched.
Folding Spinach Dough for the Sepal
We need to place the rose part at the center of the spinach part. Spinach dough is folded like sepals of a flower with center part facing the upwards and towards the purple petals. And also the spinach sepal part should be attached to the purple petals.
Roses Are Ready to Be Cooked!
For the Cooking Process
We used to have this process of steaming for South indian rice cake aka Idlies.
To a wide open metal pan, place a metal plate such that it can hold another plate which we gonna keep on it.
Pour water until the first plate is immersed.
Now place the roses on to the second plate and place the second plate on top of the first plate.
Close the pan with lid and switch on the stove.
Lets Watch the Result!
Now, after the cooking we would see that the purple rose color of the petals changed a bit. But even then, it still looked lovely.
Conclusion
Now, the sweet fiber rich roses are ready for the dinner.
