Ingredients/Tools
You can print the recipe here if you like.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups rice krispies
- 1/4 cup of unsalted butter
- 40 large marshmallows
- red food coloring
- yellow food coloring
- green m&ms
- rolos (or any small brown candy for stem)
Tools:
- bowl
- spatula
- oil (for hands)
- parchment paper
- sheet pan
Melt the Butter
First we will want to melt our butter. I am going to be doing this in the microwave. You can do this on the stovetop as well if you like. Place the butter in a large bowl and microwave it for 30 to 45 seconds until it is nice and melted.
Melt and Color
Next let's add our marshmallows to the bowl and stir it a bit to coat the marshmallows with butter. Then place the bowl in the microwave again and do increments of 30 seconds on "high" until they are all melted. It will take about 1 minute and 30 seconds. Next add in a few drops of red and a few drops of yellow food coloring. Stir it up, and add more if you need to get your desired color.
Stir It Up
No let's add in our rice krispies and stir them until they are all coated with the marshmallows.
Oil, Shape, Place, Rest
Now let's take some oil and oil up our hands, not so it is dripping, but so they are coated. We don't want the rice krispies to stick to our hands. After the rice krispies have cooled for a few minutes, you should be able to shape them into a ball and place on a parchment paper lined sheet pan. Next place a rolo or raisinet, or whatever you want to use as the stem. Then you can place a green M&M too if you like for a leaf. Next let them cool completely. You may also put them in the fridge to speed up the process. There you go, cute little treats for Halloween. :) Enjoy!
