I was looking at some Einsturzende Neubauten merchandise and quite liked their Toltec man logo, with Halloween coming up I thought I might use the man design in a decoration and this is my result.

I used a reference photo from the internet and drew out my design on a piece of cardboard salvaged from some packaging.

I cut out the design using a craft knife but forgot the face.

I used my template to size up a few pieces of scrapwood before finding one suitable then drew around the template onto the wood. As I had forgotten to cut out the face I sketched the design onto the wood.

My thinking was to cut out the face before the body with the excess material ensuring the head would not snap off.

I drilled a series of holes around the inside of the face and used a coping saw to cut it out.

I used a bandsaw to cut out the rest of the body starting with the legs, arms, neck and finally the head.

I used a belt sander to smooth the front and back faces of the wood.

I finished off the sanding by hand.
