Most DIY bath bombs require ingredients that are harder to come by or more pricey 💲💲 than you would ideally like.

Here is a recipe to make your foamy concoctions from supplies already found in your kitchen!

Supplies

  • Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Egg Carton (Easter eggs or small ornaments work as well)

Ingredients

  • Baking Soda
  • Sea Salt (substitute for Epson Salt)
  • Corn Starch
  • Vitamin C (substitute for Citric Acid)
  • Vegetable Oil (substitute for Castor Oil)
  • Essential Oils (optional)
  • Soap or Food Coloring
  • Water

Turn the Vitamin C Tablets Into a Powder (extra)

If your vitamin C comes in powdered form, skip this step.

Option 1: Plastic Bags and Hammer

  1. Place the tablets into a Ziplock bag (or any other plastic bag)
  2. Double bag the tablets, as the outer bag can occasionally rip during the processes
  3. Take the double-bagged tablets outside and gently crush them with the head of a hammer

Option 2: Bowl, Knife, and Spoon

  1. Gently cut each tablet in half, then into quarters (ask an adult for assistance if needed)
  2. Place the quartered tablets into a deep bowl
  3. Use a spoon to crush the quartered tablets until powdered

Mix Dry Ingredients Together

Mix the following ingredients together in a bowl:

  • 1/2 cup Baking Soda
  • 1/4 cup Sea Salt
  • 1/4 cup Corn Starch
  • 1/4 cup Vitamin C

Mix Wet Ingredients

Mix the following ingredients together in a bowl:

  • 3 teaspoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Essential Oils (optional)
  • Soap Food Coloring
  • Water

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

The baking soda and citric acid will start to react together, forming clumps, once you add the liquid so make sure to stir constantly.

Tips:

  • Slowly add the wet ingredients in stages to limit the amount of reactions

Pack Into Container

Carefully spoon your mix into a mold or container. Make sure to firmly pack the mix, pressing down with the spoon every time. If the mix isn't dense enough it won't stick together when removed from the container.

Tips:

  • To keep in line with the theme of kitchen supplies, I used an egg carton as my mold/container. This works best, however, with Easter eggs or circular ornaments

Enjoy a Foamy Bath Time

Let the bath bomb mix sit for a good 3 - 4 hours before use.

Carefully separate the bath bomb from the mold/container.

You are ready for a foamy bath!
