Pull String Helicopter

Hello, my name is Garrett. I'm currently a Senior at Climax-Scotts High School and am taking a CTE course at Vicksburg High School. This will be my second year taking this class at Vicksburg and I think this project is the most fun one I've made so far.

When I was told of the Make It Fly competition I instantly had a vision of what I wanted my entry to be. With that, I gladly present to you my project, the Pull String Helicopter.

With the help of Autodesk Fusion 360, I made quick work designing this project and making it a reality. The best part of this tutorial is that there are only 4 simple steps required to make your own Pull String Helicopter.

A list of all the materials needed to make this project:

• The three included .STL files
• A 3D Printer
• String
• Tape (Optional)

The first step to recreating this project is to download the three .STL files of the models listed in the material list or in this step. These are the exact files I that I made using Fusion 360 and used to print my original Pull String Helicopter.

The next step in this process is to send the three .STL files to a 3D printer and start printing out the pieces. Keep in mind, when you print out the models there will be supports in a few places that you will need to remove.

Once you have printed all of the pieces and removed their supports, you can then assemble the pieces.

First, wrap the string around the shaft using tape to secure the string or just tightly wrapping it so it doesn't come loose. Next, with the string around the shaft, put the shaft into the handle. Finally, put the top piece on the shaft in the handle.

After have the toy completely assembled, the last thing you need to do is get a good grip on the string and pull. Once you have done that, watch as the top flies into the air!
