Pull Out Between Wall and Refrigerator.

My lovely daughter recently purchased a home that had some space between the refrigerator and the wall going into the family room. The space was almost 7 inches wide and also was over 72 inches in height. With a small amount of cabinet space in the kitchen I was asked to build a space between the wall and refrigerator. I wanted to make sure that the shelf could carry the load so I used wheels under the system to carry the load. I also used the rails for a drawer that could retract to 28 inches. Because I wanted to retain the maximum amount of space I dadoed the spaces for the tracks. The tracks where 3/4" in width and so I put one at the top and one at the bottom. I wanted the shelves to be adjustable and so I added holes to the sides so that I could adjust each shelf individually. You have to remember that the goods have to be taken out and put onto the shelves and so they are going to need to be a ways apart.

This is pictures of the top shelf and the rollers. In order to get started on this project I first drew this up in a drafting program. It is far easier to build things in a CAD (computer aided design) program than it is to mess it up and have to do it over again. If you don't have a CAD program there are a lot of them out there. Find one and learn it. There are many you tube video's on how to use these programs. Another very good place to look is vertanux1.com . This is a great place to learn software and it doesn't cost anything. I can't say enough about Mr. Sikora's work. So if you are thinking of starting a project you might want to look at his site and see what programs are available. Some are free and some you have to purchase. No matter, if you have a space that is similar to this one feel free to use these drawings.

On the top of the shelf and at the bottom I have installed rollers so that it will keep close to the wall. With the rollers at the bottom of the shelf it rolls like a Cadillac door. A big concern on building this was if I was going to be able to move back and forth as there might be some lifting of the shelf off of the rollers. You have to make sure that you extend the rollers out and then pull them to the back wall. After they are extended out you can put the mollies in the wall. Check to make sure that it is going to move freely.

I wanted to keep the sides free so that groceries could be obtained from either the front or back. Here is a drawing of the shelves. Everything on the cabinet was built so that I could have the most shelving spaces available.

I made this so that the shelves could be pulled out and adjusted. This helps so that if you have boxes of cereal and cans of soup you can put them on different shelves.
