You need the following items:

- A plank (dimensions 50cm on 20cm on 17mm)

- Broomstick (min. size diameter 2cm max. size 2.5cm en l. 30cm)

- Rope ( thickness between 1cm and 1.5cm)

- 2 metal rings ( diameter 5cm, 5mm thick)

- Waterproof wood glue

Getting Started

The first thing you've got to do is make 4 holes in the plank with a diameter between 3.2 and 3.5 cm.

Then you cut 4 pieces of the broomstick each one 7.5 cm long.

Connection Pieces

Now you take the broomstick pieces and we flatten them a bit on one side, more stability for the swing.

Then we drill in the middle a hole just big enough for the rope to fit trough and after that you make a slot that the rope just fit in.

Then you make a knot at one end, and strengthen it with wood glue. Shove one of wood pieces over it then of of the metal rings. Then you shove the other wood piece on the rope and make another knot and again strengthen it with wood glue. You can watch the pictures for more information how it should look like.

Combining the Parts

When you have the connection pieces you only have to put them trough one of the holes in the plank and on one side make a knot with the rope that it is connected on the metal ring, again strengthen it with some wood glue, the other ring you leave alone. Otherwise you can't adjust the length of it.

And Now Let's Swing

Project Swing - Student Industrial Product Design

If you've completed every step you've just got to find a tree swing one end of the rope (or plank, which is easier) over a branch connect it with the plank and now you should have an easy and cheap swing that you can take anywhere and just swing with it.
