Protein Banana Pancakes

This one is my first Instructable, the #001

At some point I realized that it will support my overall health to simply tweak my diet a notch away from carbohydrates and towards protein. I like to do things gradually, and not make too dramatic changes in diet from one day to the next. Slow changes are easier to keep out without struggling with it.

I like more and more to find recipes that can be modified a bit by adding some protein. I do some experiments that don't always turn out well to begin with, but at some point I get it. Here you have the Protein Banana Pancake, I think it is easy to make an the taste is great!

My experience is that it makes almost no difference whether you add whey protein or casein protein powder to the recipe. You get most control over the taste and especially the sweetness of the final pancakes if you work with unflavored whey or unflavored casein.

Flavored protein powders usually contain sweeteners, which I am generally ok with, but for my taste most brands use to way much sweetener. Now, the recipe at hand here is with banana, so we have already invited the sweetness in. So using a flavored and sweetened protein powder would hurt much. But if we wanted to make a pancake and eat it with some beans, avocado and perhaps chicken meat and hot salsa, you may want the protein but not the sweetness.

I like to add oats to recipes. It adds fiber and plant based protein and a nice solid consistency. While casein as a shake to drink after training can be a lot thicker in the consistency than a whey protein shake, this difference isn't discernible in more solid dishes like pancakes. With regards to consistency of a pancake, there is no difference. I mostly choose between whey and casein, based on thoughts about weightloss, as casein supports weightloss better than whey.

Steps to make the Protein Banana Pancakes

  1. Prepare a blender
  2. Add all the ingredients in the blender. If you prefer the pancakes to be a little more crunchy (like I do), add only 1 scoop of oats to blend with other ingredients and put the another scoop of oats into the mix later. But, if you like your pancakes to be smooth, just blend all the ingredients together.
  3. Blend the mix and pour it out into a bowl.
  4. Heat the pan, use a brush to spread a thin layer of oil all over the pan, wait for 30 seconds.
  5. Use a spoon to pour the mix into the pan in circle shapes, wait for 2 minutes and turn the pan cakes, wait for 2 more minutes.
  6. Note: use medium heat
  7. Now you are done!

Enjoy your pancakes with your favorite toppings.
