Another variation of Pringles can craft storage! This time covered in your favorite string-form fiber.

Gather Your Materials

Gather your materials. For this project you'll need:

  • Empty chip can
  • Yarn, twine, rope / string-style fiber of your choice (I used some practice handspun I had kicking around)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Scissors

Clean Out the Can

Clean out your empty can. You want to remove all chip crumbs and flavor residue. I find that kitchen disinfecting wipes work really well for this as they tend to cut the grease and powder left behind.

You can also use a bottle brush and a little soap and water to wash out the inside of the can - just take care not to get it overly wet or leave it to soak as the cans are really just cardboard.

Start Winding

Put a dab of hot glue along the top or bottom edge of your can, right under the rim. Firmly press in your yarn / string of choice, and start winding!

Continue to Wind

As you wind on the yarn / string, make sure not to cross over what you've already wound, and keep things nice and taught. After several winds onto the can, hold taught and push downward to continue to meet what is already wound on. The harder you push down, the more nicely gaps will fill in, especially with uneven twine or art yarn.

Every few inches, push everything down firmly and pause to add a dot of hot glue. A few of these along the way will help ensure your decoration continues to lay nicely.

Finish Edges

Wind all the way to the opposite edge of the can, stopping just under the rim. Make sure to continue to push down on the yarn already on the can to fill in as many gaps as possible. Put a dot of hot glue at the very end, and trim your yarn.

All set and ready to use!
