(Homemade) Buttermilk
So If you don’t have buttermilk this is your first step in making your beignets. First, fill 1 cup of milk in a liquid measuring cup. Fill 2 tsp. With either lemon juice or squeezed lemon into the cup. Then mix them together and put it to the side for about 30 minutes for it to get a thicker consistency then add to wet ingredients.
Mix Together Dry Ingredients
So get your large bowl and mix all of the dry ingredients with preferably a whisk. Dry Ingredients- Baking powder, Salt, Cinnamon, Baking soda, Nutmeg, Flour, and Sugar.
Preparing the Egg
So get a separate bowl and crack your egg and whisk until it is all mixed together. Then you can put it aside and then add it to your wet ingredients.
Mix Wet Ingredients
Now that you have prepared your egg and buttermilk add all of the rest of your wet ingredients. Wet Ingredients- Vanilla Extract, Buttermilk, Egg, And Water. Mix them all well with your whisk.
Combine Both Mixtures
Take both of your mixtures and pour the mixture in the smaller bowl into the large bowl.
Mix Ingredients Well
Take your whisk and and mix the mixture very well until its all combined together. It may get sticky so add more flour in the mixture and continue to mix.
Rolling Out Dough
Now that you have combined both mixtures you can take your cutting board or you can just use a flat surface and dash some flour on top. Then you can take your rubber scraper and scrap out the dough and onto your board or surface. Then take your rolling pin and spread out the dough till its almost completely flat or as much as you can.
Cut Out Pieces
Now that the dough is thin, Cut out the dough into shapes of squares to get the beignet look.
Frying the Dough
Now you can get a pot or pan and pour your vegetable oil into it. Turn the heat on but make sure its not too high or too low. Take the piece of dough and drop it in. Watch it carefully and flip over when it gets brown. Both sides should be brown but not burnt.
Finalizing the Beignets
Now thats its all fried you can add the finishing touch and take a sifter and powered sugar. Sprinkle the powered sugar all over the beignets to get the finishing look. Now your done and can enjoy our beignets!
