Making Secondary Colours From Primary

To paint the colours of the rainbow, money can be saved by buying paint for just the 3 Primary colours: Red, Blue and Yellow and mixing them to make the Secondary colours: Orange, Green and Purple.

Mix the paint on a suitable surface such as a disposable plastic plate. Clean the mixing stick after mixing a secondary colour, before attempting the next.

It was found to make Green and Orange, more of the Yellow paint was required as it is a lighter colour than Red or Blue.

Not much to it really.

But wait, when one of the tubes of paint was being used, a big blob accidentally came out as it was difficult to control its dispensing. What is needed in a better way to control dispensing paint from the paint tube...

Paint Dispenser

A Paint Dispenser was quickly made by using a couple of rubber bands and some small rollers.

As I only had one large rubber band to hand, this was made into two by tieing a couple of knots in its and then cutting in the middle between the 2 knots.

Rollers

The 2 rollers were made from some rolled up aluminium from a beverage can, forming a tube.

Small pencils cut to length or small diameter wooden dowel could also be used.

Assembly and Use

The 2 rollers were place either side of the tube of paint and held snuggly together with a rubber band on either end of the rollers.

The dispenser was moved up the tube until a little of the paint was almost coming out.

The dispensing of paint can now be finely controlled be gently pressing on the tube.
