Preventing Eczema: Wet Wrap Procedure

Before_After.jpg

My name is Aiden Sumner and I've been dealing with very severe Eczema my entire life. Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis) is a skin condition which causes your skin to become very dry and itchy, and also causes rashes to appear on the skin. Eczema is not contagious. There is no known way for Eczema to be cured.

To learn more about Eczema check out Mayo Clinic here:

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/atopic-dermatitis-eczema/symptoms-causes/syc-20353273#:~:text=Atopic%20dermatitis%20(eczema)%20is%20a,been%20found%20for%20atopic%20dermatitis.

While I was talking to my Dermatologist(skin doctor) she helped me to come up with something I could do to help heal my damaged skin and reduce my Eczema flaring-up.

I present to you the Wet Wrap Procedure and how to do it.

Supplies

Clobetasol or another topical ointment prescribed by your doctor.

A towel or cloth to wrap around the affected part of your body.

Warm water

For those who don't have Eczema, you can buy Hydrocortisone at your nearest Walgreens or any other Pharmacy.

First you apply the Clobetasol or topical ointment you are using to the part of your skin that is damaged. Put some of the ointment on your fingers, then gently spread it over the affected area on your skin.

Wet a Towel With Warm (NOT Hot) Water. Wring Out the Towel So It Is Damp.

It is very important to use warm water instead of hot water, as hot water can damage your skin. Now wring the excess water out of the towel.

Cover With Dry Clothes or a Dry Blanket

Put on any dry clothes or a dry blanket on that is comfortable, this is to keep you warm and comfortable throughout the whole procedure.

After 10-15 Minutes Remove Damp Towel.

Simply take the towel off the affected area of where you wrapped it.

Apply Another Coat of Clobetasol Ointment to Affected Area.

Even though it may be quite tedious to repeat this procedure multiple times a day, it will greatly help to restore damaged skin and reduce flare-ups in the future. As someone who has endured having Eczema for years, it is nice to finally have a good and consistent way to heal the badly damaged parts of my skin.
